Special Guests!

This week we had special guests Jin (Aiden's mom) and Kyung (Samuel's mom) come in to teach the kids about South Korea. We learned that South Korea is a country on the continent of Asia. It is larger in area than Massachusetts and has a much bigger population.  We also learned the meaning of the symbols on the South Korean flag - the white background represents peace and purity, the center circle of red and blue represents balance of positive and negative forces, and the four black bars (or trigrams) represent the four elements.

We also got to see the Korean alphabet and learn a few phrases in the Korean language. The kids enjoyed seeing some traditional Korean foods, popular sports (like Tae Kwon do and archery) and some well known cultural icons from South Korea - including the song Gangnam Style!

The kids really enjoyed trying out the instruments from the Korean Embassy. They each got a turn to try out different drums and cymbals. Also Jin and Kyung brought traditional clothing from the Korean Embassy that Ruby and Kahliel modeled for us!  It was so much fun learning about South Korea! Thank you Jin and Kyung!
