Greek Architectural Temples

Before the temple unveiling, we have a special piece of art to share! John Ward took the challenge of drawing this cool and unusual gallinule bird and created this beautiful watercolor painting! Though we are not all artists per se, we encourage other parents to try their hands at some of our enrichment projects - particularly our Greek ones!

Speaking of which, the kids this week really rose to the challenge of designing their own Greek temple using the design elements and style details of the architecture of Ancient Greece, though some creative flair has distinguished each temple making it unique. A wide variety of gods, goddesses, heroes and monsters have been honored with a new temple. And we hope a lot of fun was had doing this project. Enjoy pictures below of our new acropolis!

Gods and Goddesses of the 1-2s!

This week, we introduced the kids to the gods and goddesses of Olympus through read alouds and a slideshow. These amazing mythological figures held a lot of sway over the life of the Ancient Greeks. Each held their own sphere of influence over natural phenomena, human affairs as well as their emotions. Despite their divine powers, they had very human personalities with the potential for great  kindness and mercy as well as jealousy, rage and petty squabbles amongst themselves.

The kids were asked to choose which god or goddess they would want to be, were they given the chance. Some chose gods or goddesses they felt a connection to through similar talents or interests while others chose gods or goddesses with a power they did not have but would like to wield.
