House Cup Party!

Congratulations to our Hufflepuff House from 1-2M and our Gryffindor House from 1-2A for their victory in the 2021-22 House Cup competition. It was a tight race all year as all Houses worked hard to earn points and they should be recognized for their efforts!

There was something for everyone at this celebration: Pajama Day with a stuffed animal and blanket, popcorn and a movie, bonus outside time and a popsicle treat! It was quite a day of joy and also a day of togetherness as we got ready to say goodbye to many friends for the summer, and some who are moving to new states over the summer.

And to our first graders, we look forward to welcoming you back for another year of 1-2 adventures in learning!

Greek Architecture

 We kicked off this week with a visit from Evan Fink (Architect and Christian's dad) who did an excellent presentation on Greek Architecture as seen in antiquity but also today. A lot of our own nation's architecture was inspired by these historical features. Evan showed examples of the different elements that are typical of Greek temples and structures such as columns and capitals, pediments, as well as different types of decorative moulding (their favorite was "dentil" because it looks like teeth!). 

Then, Evan gave each student a sketch of the exterior of Lilja School and gave them an opportunity to use their own architectural vision to recreate this familiar structure into something that would not be out of place in Ancient Greece. Many kids even asked for the Greek alphabet spelling for Lilja School so they could label their buildings.

Their "homework" was to look around the community for examples of Greek architecture in modern buildings and share these with us in pictures. These are included after the pictures of the kids with their drawings.
