Archaeological Dig for our Pre-School Buddies

Last week, we invited our buddies from the pre-school to come out to the outdoor classroom for an archaeological "dig". We had previously created dough out of flour, sand, coffee grinds and water to make our own "stones" for each pre-schooler to find, and carefully concealed them in our outdoor classroom space.  Inside each stone was a surprise - a little toy animal, that the pre-school kids would find when they cracked open their find. Both the pre-schoolers and the 1-2 kids enjoyed the hunt immensely!

On the heels of that, this week when we went out to the outdoor classroom we saw that another round of stones, previously undiscovered, were hidden amongst the plants and grass...

These stones did not contain an animal inside, but a symbol of one of the Greek gods and goddesses. Was this an attempt by the ancient deities to "claim" their demigod children? (as in Percy Jackson)
Who knows? But the kids did take a guess at who was possibly claiming to be their godly parent.  Some felt their secret suspicions had been confirmed while other believed that there had surely been a mix-up on Olympus.  We'll have to wait and see if any of the children channel some previously hidden powers...
