The Beauty of Fall

We have been noticing lots of changes to our outdoor classroom and the school landscape as the year moves into fall. This week, each House Table was given an iPad so that each student could find and photograph something beautiful. There was great variation in what kids chose to take a picture of and the students showed a remarkable artist's eye in their photography.

Part of our curriculum includes goals around speaking and listening. This exercise called upon skills in both areas as the students each presented their photo to the class and had to say why they thought it was beautiful. Then they needed to be attentive listeners (the trickier part for many) while their classmates spoke about their picture. Speaking in front of a group is a skill that takes courage and confidence. Luckily, our classroom community is a very safe group for kids to present to and we gave them time to think about what they wanted to say and practice with a buddy before the big share.

The pictures the children took are below. Ask your child to show you which one they took and ask them to tell you why they thought that tree, flower, stone, landscape, leaf, etc. was beautiful.
