This week, we have continued our investigations on the ways in which seeds travel. We then used our bodies to create movements that would mimic these seed movements - gliding on the wind, floating on the water, dropping from a branch, popping out of a pod, getting eaten by an animal and coming out in their scat, hitchhiking on clothing or animal fur, heat from a fire opening up the bracts of a pinecone to release the seeds (redwoods, for example), and being planted by a purposeful person or a foraging squirrel or bird.
With these motions in mind, we conducted a relay race! Each House Table was a team and each team member acted as one type of seed for their leg of the race. Over the course of several races, kids got a chance to try out different seeds motions - some were more fun and silly than others!
