Free Friday Fun!

Today was a Free Friday in the 1-2s. As part of our outdoor education, we think it is important to give kids time to explore the outdoors through play. While students are given ample opportunity to try new things and take some risks, we are on hand to supervise and guard against any dangerous situations. Children occasionally get bumps, scrapes and bruises when interacting this way. But it is no more harmful than the everyday wear and tear that is part of the world of active children.  It is rewarding to us to see their delight in experiencing this unstructured outdoor time.

Today we took the kids through our "magic door" behind the playground to explore the woods just beyond the fence. Many kids quickly found sticks suitable for casting spells and were in full Harry Potter LARP (live action role play). Other kids turned sticks into light sabers for some Star Wars fantasy play. A group of kids worked together to add to the ever growing fort using fallen branches for construction. It took a lot of teamwork to move the materials as you will see in pictures below. Still other kids tested their mettle at climbing some of the lower trees in that area or using low branches as chin-up bars. A lot of fun was had by all!
