Multiage Buddies STEM Challenge!

This week, the kids of the 1-2s got together with their buddies from the 3-4s to take on a STEM challenge! (STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Math)

Each group was tasked to create the tallest tower they could using different materials. In one room, buddy groups built the tallest tower they could using 100 index cards and 1 yard of masking tape. In another room, buddy groups built the tallest tower they could using two small cans of play-dough and 100 toothpicks. And a final room supplied kids with 20 strands of dry spaghetti, a yard of scotch tape and a yard of string - with the added challenge of its needing to support the weight of a marshmallow on top!

There were many ideas about how best to gain height (and a lot of industrial espionage...) as groups struggled with creating a tall, stable tower. Each set of materials posed different challenges for the groups be it snapping strands of spaghetti or mushy play-dough that did not set joints solidly, but all groups had a lot of fun working together.

Check out the pictures below of our STEM endeavors.
