Roll a Greek Temple!

 This week we continued our Greek Study with a fun activity to look more closely at temple architecture in Ancient Greece. We've been looking at examples and discussing the different features and styles. 

For our temple art activity, the kids got dice to roll and a game sheet with corresponding elements of a Greek Temple. Everyone started with a simple base and let the dice decide what style and how many features to add: how many columns? what style base and capital for the columns? what style entablature and pediment? what decorative figures at the corners and in the center?

Kids used crayon to draw their temples and then used a single watercolor paint color to wash the background with, creating a nice wax resist effect. Though many of the elements were challenging to draw, the kids are very proud of how their temples turned out - as are we! These paintings will be displayed on the hallway bulletin boards outside the 1-2s and will eventually be part of their Greek Study portfolios, but for now, enjoy the pictures below of the kids with their works of art!
