This week, the 1-2s presented at All School Assembly! They did a showcase of what they've been learning in Nursery Rhyme Study (much as they will be doing for all you families in two weeks) and the reviews are in: "You guys were amazing!" said one teacher, "I'm so impressed!" said another, "You crushed it!" said Ms. Quimby (the teacher of our 4th grade buddies class). The audience was equally generous in their applause and many have given compliments or shout-outs to the 1-2 kids they see in the hallway. One student reported that on his trip to the bathroom, other kids were telling him what a good job he did. We hope you will be able to join us for the Showcase on the 21st so you can see what all the buzz is about!
But mostly, it was the 1-2 kids themselves talking about how well the performance went. The kids were so proud of themselves (and rightly so!). They talked about the confidence boost that performing gave them, the excited energy still coursing through them, and a desire to do it all again. Luckily, we were planning that anyway!
Below are pictures of the presentations and performances from today. The kids were lined up along the stage, ready to go! First went our historians giving the long ago context of these rhymes we think of as just for children. Next, our jump-ropers were up to show their skills as the 1-2 kids chanted along. It was exciting for the audience to see how many "hot pepper" jumps they could do. Following this, our readers shared some less well known rhymes with the audience - we hope all those kids who are learning instruments appreciated hearing the words to that infamous early musician song - Hot Cross Buns. Following that, our dancers took the stage to show off their choreography and grace to a musical rendition of Little Miss Muffet which was very well received (even if I did play the wrong song at first...). Next to the microphone were our tongue twister reciters. These three did an expert job wrapping their tongues around some very challenging rhymes about woodchucks, big black bugs and skunks. The audience was impressed with the speed of their speech. Next up were two play performances - Old Mother Hubbard and A Was an Apple Pie. Our actors were masters of powerful voices, convincing action and comedic timing! The appreciative laughter from the audience prompted a few "high fives" between our actors and their classmates as they took their seats in front of the stage. And finally, our singers brought it home for us. A melodic version of Cock-a-Doodle-Doo, a country western style Mary Had a Little Lamb, and a rocked out rap of Baa Baa Black Sheep brought the house down. Drop the mic.
