This week we started a great collaboration with the fifth grade Wilson students in Ms. O'Brien's class! Their class has been taking a close look at books predicted to be book of the year and the fifth grade students created presentations and book reviews to give us a sneak preview of some of their favorites.
We met with them virtually on a Google Meet and saw several presentations. Ms. O'Brien had sent her collection of these predicted winners to us to look at and form some opinions of our own! Kids in small groups or with a buddy got to read and explore some of these amazing books and we got to read some together. Our fiction favorites were Off Limits and Mel Fell - two very sweet, funny selections that brought smiles to our faces. The two nonfiction books that popped out to us were The Beak Book (a perfect accompaniment to our bird study) and How to Find a Fox which was full of adorable photographs and fun facts about foxes - maybe we'll spot one on our next Town Forest Walk! Among the collection though were also other fact packed nonfiction books as well as some stories that brought up powerful feelings.
Today we sent our reflections and comments to Ms. O'Brien's class about favorites that stood out to us! See the pictures below of groups showcasing a book they read over this collaboration.
