This week we wrapped up our writing unit on realistic fiction. The kids really got to know a lot of techniques to enrich their writing and unfreeze their characters. To celebrate all their efforts and achievements, we went outside so they could share their best piece of realistic fiction with a buddy or small group. Our great writers were also good listeners and gave lots of feedback to their partners who complimented their choice of words, catchy lead, use of dialogue, detailed descriptions, phrases that move time, specific actions or internal thinking of characters.
Next week we will start a writing unit on Poetry where we'll need to squeeze big feelings, images and ideas into smaller packages. Our outdoor time in nature will prove to be very inspirational as we move through that study.
