This week, in our continued study of seeds, we worked on building some muscle memory for how seeds get around. Gross motor activities are a great aid to memory as learning in multiple modalities helps kids hold on to information they learn.
In this case, we held a House Table relay race based on the way seeds move. Each House Table needed one racer to move as a seed blown by the wind, one as a seed floating in the water, one as a popping seed pod and two demonstrating the hitchhiking method with one kid as the seed and the other as the obliging person or animal who the seed has attached itself too.
We repeated this activity many times giving kids multiple opportunities to move in the different ways that seeds travel. Ask your child to tell you about the many ways that seeds get about!
