Harry Potter House Table Teams!

Our 1-2 community is really starting to gel! Kids are getting to know each other's names and learn about one another. Part of our team building is to get kids "sorted" into House Table groups based on the House Tables from the Harry Potter books.  While we know that certain houses from the series have their own reputations, we use this opportunity to get kids to brainstorm the values they want THEIR version of the House Table to be known for.

Each House Table created a banner to display the key words they want to let people know are the core values of the kids at that table. We brainstormed quite a list together which included respectful, friendly, responsible, kind, creative, fun-loving risk-takers, cooperative, brave, focused, hard workers, good sports, and more. Each House Table team chose the ones that spoke most to them to feature on their banners along with images they associate with these qualities as well as images inspired by the world of Harry Potter (you'll notice lots of wands, broomsticks, owls, potion bottles, Hogwarts castles and even some Harry Potters in the mix).

Throughout the year, kids will engage in many cooperative activities in their House Table teams - from engineering projects to building challenges, and learn how to work well as part of a group. Kids will also be earning points for their House Table that will hopefully win them the House Cup when the final scores are tallied in June. Helpful behaviors, kind acts and engaged learning are things that kids can do to earn points, but rule breaking, unkind acts and misbehavior can also lose kids points for their House Table. Luckily, in our years of experience, far more points are gained than lost!

In June, the winning House Table teams from 1-2A and 1-2M will come together to decide the theme of our House Cup party - a celebration that ALL kids will take part in. In the past, we have seen costume dress up parties, popcorn & movie parties, outside all day events and PJ days become the theme of these celebrations. What will it be this year?

Check out the pictures of our proud House Table teams below. Ask your child to tell you about their banner and the choices their team made. See if they can tell you all the names of the kids at their House Table teams.

A special sighting of the Slytherin Snake in Mrs. M.'s driveway! It is even making the Slytherin "S" in honor of its House. We'll be on the look-out for any visits from eagle, lion or badger mascots...
