Fairy Houses!

This week in the 1/2s was our student teacher takeover week! Miss Q and Miss L, who you may have heard a lot about, took over the classroom and taught on their own for a very special week. During outside time, students worked on designing and building fairy houses with their house tables. They had to scavenge for their own materials in the woods, work together to create a design, and then actually execute it!

We connected this project back to the engineering design process, thinking about what the fairies would need, like protection from animals or rain, as well as what might make a fairy pick their fairy house over one of the other 7 that were being built. Some houses featured amenities such as ziplines, party zones, gardens, comfortable beds, salads served in acorn caps, and more! The students were very invested in their projects, and couldn’t wait to go back on Day 2 to see if their houses were still standing or if they needed to redesign so that they could be longlasting structures. Creativity, team work, and engineering all played a part in this awesome outdoor classroom week!

Enjoy the pictures of their beautiful creations!
