We have continued our multiple intelligences study of dragons this week. The stations all had new learning experiences to help children deepen their understandings of the stories and culture behind these mythical creatures.
At our Kinesthetic Station, the students choreographed and performed a dragon dance to music from Asian cultures. At our Musical station, groups have learned a verse from a story song that they will perform in its entirety at our upcoming Dragon Showcase!
At our Logical-Mathematical station, students have been doing some examining of the differences and similarities between dragons and dinosaurs. Our research teams have been scouring through books to discover the places where these extinct reptiles overlap with their fantastic counterparts.
Part of our dragon learning has uncovered that Eastern Dragons are composites of many different types of animals with features ranging from stag antlers and fish scales to demon eyes and tiger paws! At our Visual-Spatial center, kids have been dreaming up a new dragon with parts borrowed from some of their favorite animals. Their creations have included deer feet, shark fins and even unicorn horns!
At the Intrapersonal station, students have been creating short stories about the dragons in the murals they created last week. There have been some pretty exciting adventures! The kids have enjoyed trying their hands at fiction writing.
And finally, at our Verbal-Linguistic station, the kids have been partner reading dragon poems. Partners then choose one poem to read aloud to the group. They have worked on reading their selections with voice and volume. It has been wonderful to hear!
