This week, we had an All School Assembly about reading! Kids from all classes brought pictures and posters of favorite books they would recommend to fellow Lilja readers. In our classrooms, we discussed how recommendations help us discover lots of new things to try - books, movies, restaurants, etc. Often when a family member or peer who really knows us well recommends something they think we will like, it is a big hit!
For our project, the 1-2 kids drew a picture and wrote a favorite part from a read aloud book they really loved - The Crocodile Who Didn't Like Water. This book had been recommended to us by Ms. Moss, our school media specialist, who knows about our dragon study and love of dragons!
Each House Table created a poster pulling together their favorite scenes. Some kids loved the part when the "crocodile" sneezes fire - revealing his true identity as a dragon! Other kids liked the humor in the part when the crocodile saved up his tooth fairy money to buy a ring float so he could play with his siblings in the water. Still others thought it was cool that this little dragon used his fire to power a hot air balloon and take all the little crocodiles for a ride. There was much to love about this funny story with a dragon surprise making it all the more endearing to us!
At the assembly, our Heads of House stood to hold up our posters to show the rest of the school. The principal collected our posters to display in the school. For now, you can check them out in the photos below.
