During the first few weeks of school, Choice Times are all about getting to know new friends. Students have lots of choices of classroom games, materials and activities to spark their interest and connect with other kids who share the same interests. It has been great to see kids collaborate with one another in the construction of block structures, LEGO or snap cube creations, as well as marble runs (but watch out for the occasional dinosaur invasion…) Other kids have fun playing games with a peer or engaging in some fun fantasy play with stuffed animals or other toys. Kids stretch their imaginations drawing pictures or writing stories, while still others like to share a new creation from home or a discovery made on the way to school. As we look around this dynamic and creative atmosphere, it is clear how much play fosters the learning our students do each day.
